Vernon Ransom

August 15, 1960 ~ January 8, 2021 (age 60)


Mr. Kirkland Vernon Ransom, 60, of DeWitt, Arkansas was born August 15, 1960 to the late Stanley V. Ransom, Sr. and Ruther Mae Robinson-Ransom. He departed his life on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Vernon graduated from DeWitt High School, Class of 1978, where he excelled in sports, obtaining All-Region football honor. He furthered his education at the University of Arkansas - Phillips (formerly Rice Belt Vocational Technical School) in DeWitt, Arkansas. Vernon obtained his Tractor & Diesel Mechanics diploma in June 1980, his Auto Mechanics diploma in June 1981, and his Advanced Automotive Mechanics diploma in June 1982. In April 1986, he received his Post-Secondary Vocational Technical Teaching certificate. Also in that year, he completed and received a certification in Basic and Body Repair. Vernon completed numerous workshops in Little Rock, Arkansas to learn new things about mechanics, which resulted in him teaching Auto & Diesel Mechanics, including High School Auto Mechanics, at the University of Arkansas-Phillips/ Rice Belt Vocational Technical School. 

He was employed at The Bait Shop/Jr’s Alternator for many years. Also he was a manger for Gino’s Pizza Parlor and other automotive shops in DeWitt.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents and older brothers Stanley V. Ransom, Jr. (2007) and Glen Ray Thomasson, Sr. (2009).

He enjoyed spending time with his long-time companion Pat Bryant and her children Antonio and Stephanie. In addition, Vernon enjoyed fishing, working on vehicles, and watching television, especially sports with his favorite college team the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Vernon leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted companion Patricia Bryant of Holly Grove, AR; one brother Curtis D. Ransom of DeWitt, AR; two sisters Vivian L. Woods of West Memphis, AR and Marvalene Brown of Jacksonville, AR; seven nieces Tina, Natalie, Stephanie, Sharonka, Abigail Ransom, Kepresha Brown, and Vanessa Woods, whom he loved as though she was his daughter; three nephews Glen Thomasson, Jr. of LeMesa, CA, Casey Ransom, and Stanley Ransom III; Stephanie (Carl) Hoskins of West Helena, AR and Antonio Jackson, Jr. of Little Rock, AR whom he reared and loved; Reverend Sandra (Reuben) Ransom Eldridge of Sherwood, AR; and a host of other relatives and friends.
