Ms. O.V. Phillips, 99, was born on October 28, 1922 in Crocketts Bluff, Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late Russell Phillips, Sr. and Florance Stigger Phillips. She was the second born of eight children. O.V. departed this life on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at DeWitt Nursing Home in DeWitt, Arkansas.
She confessed her hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of Popular Creek Baptist Church in Crocketts Bluff, under the leadership of Reverend M.H. Stigger. She served as secretary for Sunday School for seven years. A few years later, she became the church secretary and served for sixty-two years.
O.V. graduated from Popular Creek Public School in Crocketts Bluff. She also attended Immanuel High School in Almyra, Arkansas.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and quilting. O.V.’s greatest joy, however, included working with her church family and helping to provide a strong Christian environment for her siblings.
O.V. lived the last nine years of her life in the DeWitt Nursing Home, where she received excellent care from the kind and compassionate staff, doctors, nurses, and CNAs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers. O.V. leaves to cherish her memory two brothers Charlie L. Phillips of Stuttgart, AR and Russell Phillips, Jr. of Chicago, Il; one sister Mattie P. London of DeWitt, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
