Mae Willie Nichols Hancock passed away in the evening hours on October 18, 2022 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born August 28, 1946 in Stuttgart, Arkansas to the late John Henry Nichols and Mae Willie Walker Nichols. Because her mother passed away two months after her birth, she was raised, along with her sister Ora, by her maternal grandparents, the late Albert and Savannah Martin Holmes.
She was a 1964 graduate of Holman High School in Stuttgart. After many years working in health care in the Stuttgart area at Rose Care Center and Stuttgart Memorial Hospital, she retired to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They all called her ‘Granny!” They were the light of her life.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, siblings Ora Lee Sims, Annie Taylor, Roy Nichols, Artis Nichols, Nathaniel Nichols, Lester Nichols, and Ully “Booster” Hall and son-in-law Cleo Avery.
Left to cherish her memories are her children Savannah Hancock (Michael) Fluker, Dewanna Hancock Avery, Venita Hancock, all of Stuttgart, AR and Jimmie (Lisa) Hancock, Jr. of Houston, TX; grandchildren Ebony Hancock, Latasha Tolliver, Ericka Williams, Antonio Tolliver, all of Stuttgart, AR, Michael Fluker, Jr. of Little Rock, AR, Venisha Hancock of Conway, AR, Latoya Hancock of New Orleans, LA, Jessica Hancock-Colvin of Brooklyn, NY, Bryttney (Edd) Reneau of Knoxville, TN and Ahryn Hancock of Seattle, WA; eighteen great-grandchildren; a special niece who was like a sister Linda (Greg) Allen of Detroit, MI; and brother-in-law Clark Sims, Sr. Mae and Ora raised their children as siblings. Ora’s children include Clark Sims, Jr., Angela Sims and Albert Sims, all of Stuttgart, AR and Katrina (Fred) Caldwell of Jacksonville, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
