Leroy Hicks was born March 13, 1948 in Humnoke, Arkansas to James Washington Hicks, Sr. and Rosie Mae Hicks. He confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior at an early age. Leroy was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Stuttgart, Arkansas.
He was united in holy matrimony to Dorthy Smith on June 20, 1998. They were married for 22 years and together for 44 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and most of all an amazing FRIEND to everyone he came in contact with. Leroy would help anyone he could.
Leroy attended Humnoke High School District. He worked for the City of Stuttgart, where he retired after 25 years of service.
In his leisure time, Leroy enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing a friendly game of cards with his special friends Le-Von Hall, Donnie Brown, Kathy Peters, Nicola Kelly (niece), Gary Love, Lamont James, Donald Jones, and Lennie Barnes. They were referred to as his medicine. When he was not feeling well after chemo or just feeling down, they would liven him all the way up.
Leroy was preceded in death by his father James Washington Hicks, Sr., mother Rosie Mae Hicks, and three brothers Curtis Hicks, James Hicks, Jr., and Otis Hicks.
On November 30, 2020 God called home a very special angel. Leroy leaves to cherish his memories the following: wife Dorthy Hicks; one daughter LaToya Hicks of Stuttgart, AR; three sons LeeRoy Smith and Kevin Whitmore, both of Stuttgart, AR and Christopher Jackson of Killeen, TX; a special niece who he raised as his daughter Natallah (Nan) Ice of Conway, AR; nine grandchildren; two brothers Elbert (Janice) Hicks of Kansas City, MO and Eugene (Della) Hicks of Kansas City, KS; one sister-in-law Janice Autrolia Hicks of Stuttgart, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
