Leon Phillips was born January 7, 1958, to Simon Phillips, Jr. and Ethel Mae Cohns-Phillips in Holly Grove, Arkansas. He was a 1976 graduate from Clarendon High School. Immediately after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and retired after serving 20 years. He was employed at Orbit Fluid and Valve in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Leon accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifetime member at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Roe, Arkansas.
Leon had a passion for cooking, so he graduated from University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College Culinary School. He loved to cook for his wife, family and friends; no one could “burn” like Leon. You could try to ask for the recipe….but don’t bother, he would never give it up.
Leon was a giver. If you complimented his wardrobe, he would offer to buy you the same outfit, because he knew he was looking good and loved for others to look good as well! He gave his time by lending an ear to listen to any problems friends may had and shared words of wisdom. Even when Leon was going through a storm, he would always share his beautiful smile. If anyone should ever ask the most memorable aspects of Leon, it would be his cooking, community service, and his beautiful smile. Leon was such a kind soul to all of those he met. If you were lucky enough to have met Leon, you were truly blessed.
Leon was preceded in death by his father Simon Phillips, Jr., grandparents Simon Phillips, Sr., Callie Phillips and Winnie Cohns, and a step-daughter Shanta Batchelor.
Leon leaves to cherish his memory his loving, devoted wife Lesia Booker-Phillips of Little Rock, AR; mother Ethel Mae Cohns-Phillips; three sons Leon Phillips Jr., Zachary Phillips, and Christian Phillips; one step-son Jerry Hill (Asia); one daughter Stephanie Phillips; one step-daughter Shawn Hardiman; three grandchildren Saige Wilson, Giselle Phillips, and Jason Thompson; three step-grandchildren Jayden Hill, Ava Hill, and Jada Hill; three brothers Timothy Phillips (Brenda), Elmer Phillips, and Simon Phillips III (Darnell); four sisters Joyce Robinson (Jimmie), Winnie Hogan, Shirley Phillips, and Ida Higgins (Jimmy); two half-sisters Louise Grayson and Emily King (Riley); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
