Juanita Sims Carroll was born on October 15, 1942 in Stuttgart, Arkansas to Gertrude King Sims. She passed away on February 21, 2023 at Medicalodges East of Kansas City. She was the youngest of seven children. Juanita was preceded in death by her mother, four brothers and one sister.
Juanita was the valedictorian of Holmon High School, Class of 1962. She attended Philander Smith College where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Education. After completing college, Juanita moved to Kansas City and married Lee Edward Carroll on December 21, 1971.
Juanita was employed by Kansas City Public Schools for twenty years, where she taught high school English. Juanita was respected, admired and loved by her students and colleagues. In 1996, she was selected for inclusion in the Fourth Edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Juanita retired on July 1, 1999. She received multiple letters of appreciation, phone calls and cards from her former students over the years.
Juanita was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, and loved cats.
Juanita leaves to cherish her memory her only daughter Michelle Carroll, Kansas City, KS; grandson Mason Talbert, Kansas City, KS; sisters Mabel Thompkins, Stuttgart, AR and Anna Sims, Kankakee, IL; brother Clark Sims, Stuttgart, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.
