On November 29, 2002, a beautiful baby girl was welcomed to the city of Stuttgart, Arkansas. Her parents Nakisha Johnson and Gary Shelton, Sr., (Carl Borchert), gave her a very special name-Jakera Nicole Shelton. This beautiful little girl displayed a stern, strong, stubborn spirit at an early age, yet her precious smile and soft heart warmed everyone she came in touch with.
In her formative years, Jakera was reared under the careful watch of her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mae Shelton, who got her involved the Girl Scouts, school activities, and church activities.
In school Jakera ran track and was described as being able to 'run like a deer'. She was a contestant in the Miss Stuttgart High Pageant, as well as showed artistic talent. Her proud achievement was graduating in the Class of 2021.
Throughout her young life, she was very active in her home church, Holy Benton Temple where she was baptized, as well as a member of the choir. She also taught the Youth Sunday School Class; she participated on the Praise Dance Team; she represented HBT in Jurisdictional activities; and she assisted with after school and Summer Camp activities.
Jakera was dearly loved by her family, her friends and her church family. She was gifted to reach people. We all were excited about the positive things she was doing and encouraged her to pursue them. However, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, she would succumb to the tragedy that occurred the previous night at the tender age of 22.
She was preceded in death by her maternal great grandparents, Elmer and Lucille Hogan; her paternal great grandparents, Robert and Addie Owens; her paternal grandfather, Willis Shelton; her maternal grandmother, Roxanne Hogan; and a special uncle Fred Amos.
Jakera leaves to cherish her life, her mother, Nakisha Johnson; her father, Gary Shelton, Sr., (Carl Borchert); her grandmother who raised her, Mae Shelton; her maternal grandfather, John Amos; five brothers: Natalyn Amos, Marrion Amos, Gary Shelton, Jr., Jaylon Shelton and Jakeylon Shelton; three sisters: Jahnee Shelton, Jasmin Shelton and Kiaria Shelton; special aunts: Joyce Hogan, Shanna Shelton and Lurline Moten; a special cousin: Aaliyah Shelton; a special friend: Malique Scales; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
