Houston Dukes, Jr. Obituary

Houston Earl Dukes, Jr. was born April 10, 1944 in Stuttgart, Arkansas. He was one of six children born to Houston Dukes, Sr. and Lucy Mae Powell Dukes.  Houston departed this life on August 11, 2021 surrounded by family at his home in Clarendon, Arkansas.

He was raised in Roe, Arkansas where his love for Christ was established at an early age. He was a member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Henry Dabner, Sr., where he served as a Deacon and a member of the choir. Houston loved to sing “Precious Lord” and “Trouble in My Way.” He was a graduate of G.W. Carver High School in Clarendon, Arkansas.

Affectionately known as Bubba, he met the love of his life Mildred Franks, and they were married on June 8, 1964. They were blessed with four children Myra Renee, Michelle Dianne, Michael Daon, and Latisha Taree.

Bubba was a compassionate and caring person. The love he had for himself is the same love he displayed for others and his job. He was employed by the Hopson Farm in Roe, Arkansas. He begin working on the farm in his teens and was faithfully employed there until he retired this year.

Bubba was a family man. He and his beloved wife Mildred played a huge role in helping raise their grandchildren and cherished the memories they had together. The grandchildren would always come to his house to play basketball with him or ride the lawn mower.  He enjoyed it as much as the grandchildren. He was also a lover of “tractors” and wearing his “hats and boots.”

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mildred Dukes, his parents Houston Dukes, Sr. and Lucy Dukes, and one brother William “Ray” Dukes.

Bubba is survived by his four children Myra Renee Hunter of Clarendon, Arkansas, Michelle Dianne (Marvin) Jackson of Holly Grove, Arkansas, Michael Daon (Heather) Dukes, Sr. of Clarendon, Arkansas, and Latisha Taree Dukes of Clarendon, Arkansas; ten grandchildren Byron, Jenee, Shenee, Michaela, Michael Jr., Destiny, Jaidan, Jada, Jordan, and Jaicee; five great grandchildren Brayden, Jaxston, Kyison, Ace, and MaLanhii; three sisters Betty Yates and Pearlene Mitchell, both of Clarendon, Arkansas, and Mary (Booker) Johnson of Stuttgart, Arkansas; one brother Bobby Dukes, Sr. of Little Rock, Arkansas; a “dear sweet friend” Felicia Henderson of Clarendon, Arkansas who loved Mildred and Bubba Dukes; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
