Hester Bledsoe Obituary

Sister Hester Mae Lee Bledsoe was born September 16, 1931 in Almyra, Arkansas to the late Eli and Ruby Childs. At the age of 92 years old, she departed this life on December 2, 2023.

She attended Immanuel High School in Almyra, Class of 1950.

Hester married her longtime sweetheart Robert Clay Bledsoe on December 9, 1951. And to this union, four children were born. She later moved with her husband to Lodges Corner, near Stuttgart, Arkansas, where her husband provided for their family as a rice and bean farmer.

She confessed to Christ at an early age and joined Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Almyra. Hester united with Allen Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Stuttgart, under the leadership of Reverend G.H. Wade until his demise. Her church ministry continued under the leadership of Reverend Gilbert Byrd, Jr. as pastor. She was active in the Willing Workers Club ministry, as well as sang in the inspirational choir.

Hester’s passion was singing. She sang with the choir until her health failed. Although she could no longer be an active choir member, she continued to sing solo throughout the Arkansas County community at church programs and on various occasions.

In addition, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, and cleaning. Hester loved life, laughter, and fun, as well as cherished the time spent with family and friends. She was known as “Hessie” by some and “Mama” by others.

She was preceded in death by her parents Eli and Ruby Childs, three sisters Cora Avery, Willie B. Tyler, and Vella Dean Davis, one brother Clarence Childs, husband Robert Bledsoe, and one son Robert Adale Bledsoe.

Hester leaves to cherish her memories two sons Perry Bledsoe of DeWitt, AR and Darnell (Annette) Bledsoe of Stuttgart, AR; one daughter Delphine (Billy) Dorsey, Sr. of Ethel, AR; one sister Louise Jones of Little Rock, AR; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who adored her.
