Mrs. Hallie Gene Geans was born February 4, 1948 in Lexington, Mississippi to the late Brooks and Sallie Mae Murdock Helm.
Hallie attended Nugent Center High School in Greenville, Mississippi where she was an elite star basketball player, resulting in a scholarship offer to Mississippi Valley State University. She ultimately decided to move to Chicago, Illinois in 1966 to continue her education and be closer to her siblings. There, she would meet her husband of 55 years and start a beautiful family.
On August 19, 1967, she was joined in matrimony to Charles Ray Geans. To this union, three children were born: Reginald, Craig, and Bridget. She was the matriarch of three grandchildren: Jasmine Ney, Rai’ Geans, and Alexis Geans.
Hallie’s love of children led her to open an in-home childcare business. Moreover, she served as the Rock of Ages Baptist Church Usher Board President in Maywood, Illinois for many years. Upon retirement, she continued her service of the Lord after moving to Conway, Arkansas in 2004, where she became a Sunday School teacher at the Greater Pleasant Branch Baptist Church in Conway.
Hallie was known for her humor, fantastic cooking, and hosting. She threw some of the most memorable and entertaining holiday parties and get-togethers. Hallie was also known for her empathy and kindheartedness as she routinely opened her home to family and friends, who needed a place to stay or be nursed back to health.
Hallie was preceded in death by her parents Brooks and Sallie Mae Helm, seven brothers Brooks Jr., Clyde, Willie, James, Otha, Henry, and Clarence, and four sisters Asalee Delaney, Odessa Triplett, Lennie Williams, and Essie Helm.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband Charles Ray Geans, three children Reginald Geans (Jamie), Craig Geans, and Bridget Geans-Onick, three grandchildren, three sisters Eloise (Joseph) Ingram, Susie Helm, Leslie Helm and brother Andrew Helm, in addition to a host of loving relatives and friends.
