George Jeffery, Jr. Obituary

Deacon George Jeffery, Jr., affectionately known as “Joe”, a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend was born October 9, 1944 to the late George and Girstine Jeffery, Sr. in Casscoe, Arkansas. He departed this life on December 10, 2021.

He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Calvary C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Elder Clarence Guydon. He remained a faithful member under the leadership of Elder Fredrick “Bobby” Jeffery, until he made his heavenly transition, earning the nickname “Apostle Joe”.

George attended Immanuel High School in Almyra, Arkansas. He had a love for agriculture in his early adulthood. He worked a variety of jobs related to the field of agriculture including Southland “Hartz” Seed Company, Riceland Foods, Hargrove Farms, and later retired from Producer’s Rice Mill. George was also an entrepreneur, the owner operator of Joe’s Tree and Lawn Service, and helped to keep others warm by selling firewood.

He was an avid hunter having tagged one of the biggest bucks, a “26 Pointer” in the state of Arkansas back in 1976. For years it was on display at Mack’s Sport Shop. He also loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and mowing yards. He was a community leader serving others by always helping those in need whether it was mowing a lawn, driving someone across town or across the nation to get what they needed. He would give you the shirt off his back and look to see if there was anything else he could do to help.  “Joe” was a mentor to many children in the community, lovingly called “Uncle Joe” and “Daddy” by those that knew him well. He loved spending time with family and friends, as well as taking care his grand and great-grandchildren.

George united in Holy Matrimony to Bessie Timmons. They enjoyed love for a lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Girstine Jeffery, Sr., two brothers Arthur Holt and Willie Lee Holt, Sr., and six sisters Jewel Wofford, Leatha M. Holt-Peoples, Rosie Lee Holt-Tolliver, Earnestine Holt, Juanita Owens, and Betty Watkins.
