Ethel Mae Cohns-Phillips was born October 7, 1924 in Ethel, Arkansas to the late Alex and Winnie Cohns.
Mom accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifetime member at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Roe, Arkansas.
As a young adult, she was a homemaker who later in life became “Community Mom” loved by all who knew her. Mom did her best to raise eight children and grandchildren right by example. She provided us with the foundation of love and respect of God and most of all, love of family. Mom enjoyed family get-togethers and simply watching her grand and great grandchildren play. She will be remembered for her infectious smile and stern yet gentle demeanor. We know she is in a better place, and while it hurts us that she is no longer with us, she will always be in our hearts and minds.
Our dear Mother Ethel Mae Cohns-Phillips sadly departed this life on December 18, 2023 at The Springs of Pinnacle Mountain Health & Rehabilitation in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her mother Winnie Cohns, father Alex Cohns, son Leon Phillips, two sisters Pauline Wright and Ida V Shumpert, brother Charlie Cohns, and nephew Bennie Powell.
Ethel leaves to cherish her memories four daughters Joyce (Jimmie) Robinson, Winnie Hogan, Shirley Phillips, and Ida V (Jimmy) Higgins; two stepdaughters Louise Grayson and Emily (Riley) King; three sons Timothy (Brenda) Phillips, Elmer Phillips, and Simon (Darnell) Phillips III; a daughter-in-law Lesia Booker Phillips; twenty-six grandchildren Vickie, Andria, Heather, Sherrie, Stephanie, Steve, Leola, Chiquita, Katherine, Kesha, Angela, Crystal, Dominic, Stacey, Callie, Tangulia, Zachary, Leon Jr., Christian, Stephanie, Corey, Nina, Jessica, Terry, Lil Simon, and Kevin; niece Earnestine Burgess of Colorado Springs, Co; nephews John Cohns of Holly Grove, AR, and Terry Shumpert of Mobile, AL; and a host of great grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
