Earnestine Davis Obituary

Earnestine Davis was born on February 13, 1936 in Clarendon, Arkansas to the late Titus Green and Beatrice Littlejohn Green.

She was reared in a Christian home. She proclaimed Christ as her personal savior in 1947 at the age of eleven, under the leadership of the late Reverend E.C. Goldsberry. Earnestine loved to read her Bible and share the word of God. She was an active member of Baptist Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Clarendon, until her health failed. Earnestine served as secretary of the Sunday School and the Baptist Training Union (BTU), superintendent of the Sunday School, church treasurer, and assistant teacher of The Women Mission Society, in addition to serving as treasurer for the Philips, Lee, Monroe and Desha (PLMD) District Congress.

Earnestine received her early education at G.W. Carver School in Clarendon. She later obtained her GED from Clarendon Public School. She was employed by the Clarendon School District in Food Services for thirty-one years and the Arkansas Area on Agency for ten years. During her years employed by the school district, she was often found working at banquets and the concession stand at football games.

After retirement, Earnestine spent time traveling. Her trip to New York City was a highlight in her life; she often spoke of her visit to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. In addition, she loved spending time at the Mid-Delta Senior Citizen Center, where she proclaimed herself the “QUEEN” of the bean bag ball. She enjoyed watching westerns, old movies, working crossword puzzles and reading. In addition, Earnestine loved the outdoors. She loved gardening and canning the fruits of her labor, working in her yard, and watching her soap operas. She could often be found walking around town with her dog Rex.

She loved spending time with her family. Because quilting was her favorite past time, it was her mission to make sure all her children had one of her handmade quilts. One of Earnestine's quilts was featured in the Monroe County Sun newspaper. That quilt was sold at an auction, and all funds were donated to her church.

Earnestine was a wholesome lady who enjoyed the simplicity of her life. She possessed a strong work ethic, which she instilled in her children. Although she had a wonderful sense of humor, that never inhibited her sense of seriousness. Earnestine was all about business and was very particular when it came to making sure things were done in order.

She departed this life on March 21, 2023 surrounded by family in the comfort of her home. She was preceded in death by her parents Titus and Beatrice Littlejohn Green; brothers Sam Green, Eddie Green, Johnny (Shug) Green, Jimmy D. Green, and Romance Green; brothers-in- law Johnny O'kain, John Wesley Davis, Henry V. Davis, Louis Davis, Walter Davis, and Reverend W.C. Clark; sisters-in-law Emma Lou Talley and Lurlene Stewart; and son Curtis Cunard Davis

Earnestine’s memory will forever be cherished by her five daughters Lisa Renee Harvey (Willie) of Clarendon, AR, Linda Valentina Davis of Jonesboro, AR, Earnestine Annette Artis (James) of Chambersburg, PA, Eatarsha Latonia Murry (Ronald) of Clarendon, AR, and Ashley Danielle Holman of Clarendon AR; two sisters Marie O'Kain of St Louis, MO and Gloria Clark of Clarendon, AR; sister-in-law Helen Green of Clarendon, AR; fourteen grandchildren Adam Davis, Demond Davis, Novella Harvey, Leshia Harvey, Nicole Artis, James Artis, Jr., Wesley Artis, Danielle Davis, David Malone, Malachi Davis, Latisha Nelson, Trevon King, Rolonda Earls (Bryant), and Raven Murry; twenty-six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
