“THE LIFE”
Of
Derek “Dookie” Mason-Owens
My Ray of Sunshine
My Ray of Sunshine, Derek Rinauld Mason-Owens, known by those who love him simply as, “Dookie,” departed this life on January 9, 2023.
Dookie was born on March 10, 1983 in Stuttgart, Arkansas to Dallas Owens, Jr. and Delores Mason. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. Dallas Sr. and Mrs. Leora Owens and Mr. L.V. and Mrs. Bobbie Bradley.
Dookie was educated by the Stuttgart Public School system. Shortly after high school, Dookie met and married Angie Hodges, and they relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. To this union, two baby girls were born. His girls were the apple of his eye.
Later in life, Dookie married Dallin Harvill.
Throughout his life, Dookie worked various jobs, until a severe back injury made it extremely difficult for him to continue in the workforce. Dookie enjoyed spending time with his family, hanging with his friends, and being the life of the party. He was an avid dog lover.
Handsome, charismatic, and light in spirit, with a smile that was bright as the sun. No matter how he was feeling or difficult his circumstances, his smile showed resilience even in the face of his adversities. Dookie loved life and the people in it. He was equally loved and admired by family, friends, and those who knew him. As one friend affectionately put it, “Dookie was truly a 19th street legend.”
Life without my baby will never be the same, and the lives he touched and leave behind are great and many. He leaves to carry on his memory, although separated, his wife Dallin Harvill of Stuttgart, AR; two precious girls Arionna and Danae Mason, both of Stuttgart, AR; one bonus child Mario Lewis, Jr. of Stuttgart, AR; his beloved mother Delores Mason of Stuttgart, AR; his father Dallas Owens, Jr. of Stuttgart, AR; four brothers Jeremy Mason of North Little Rock, AR, Edmond Mason of Stuttgart, AR, Darren Mason of Atlanta, GA, and Dallas Owens III of Dallas, TX; four sisters Shelly Owens and Monique Owens, both of Stuttgart, AR, Tammie Austin (Shaun) of Atlanta, GA, and Eureka Ice of Little Rock, AR; two special cousins who Dookie considered as brothers Brandon Bradley and Vernon Stigger, both of Stuttgart, AR; four lifelong friends Anthony Stigger of Stuttgart, AR, Rickey Haynes, Jr., Herbert Manuel Jr., and Zachary Hodges, all of Little Rock, AR; many others he formed a bond with, far too numerous to name; and a myriad of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends who mourn his absence.
We will patiently await The Day when Christ Jesus has awakened and summoned Dookie to a new life, together with us again!
