Damon Lee Oates was born March 7, 1970 to the late August Lee and Orange D Oates in Stuttgart, Arkansas.
Damon was a graduate of Stuttgart High School, Class of 1988. He participated in basketball and track & field. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army, in which his duties included NBC (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical) Specialist, Chemical Operations Specialist, and Military Intelligence, as well as Airborne. After his military career, Damon was an instrument fitter, pipe fitter, and welder in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. He later became a Safety Manager in Washington, D.C./Maryland.
Damon departed this life on Monday, July 3, 2023 surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents August and Orange Oates, brother Gregory Oates, nieces Jennifer “O.J.” Oates and Jocelyn “JaJa” Owens, grandparents Leroy and Elfreda Oates and Senator Williams and Georgia Burks.
Damon leaves to cherish his memories his daughter Jaquelle Oates of Fairbanks, AK; sisters Debra (Donald) Robinson of Stuttgart, AR and Jacqueline Walls of Indianapolis, IN; brothers August Oates of Stuttgart, AR, Rickey (Laura) Oates of Maricopa, AZ, and Darrell (Loretta) Oates of Hampton, VA; special nephews Glen, Lawrence, Victor, Tony, Lil’ Greg, Cameron, Jordan, Shondre, Thomas, and Darius; special nieces Teasa, Porsha, Nicki, Rochelle, Alexis, and Ashanti; special friends Paul Reed of Stuttgart, AR, Leodis Kelley of Killeen, TX, and Anthony “Rone” Herron of Overland Park, KS; and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, friends, and acquaintances who will miss him dearly.
