Mr. Courtney L. Scaife, Sr. was born January 1, 1943, in Marvell, Arkansas to the late Henry and Willie Mae Scaife. He departed this life on April 17, 2021.
Courtney was introduced to Blues music at the age of 8, and by 9, had built a one string guitar on the outside wall of his childhood home in Marvell and began teaching himself how to play. Fast-forward, Courtney L. Scaife, Sr. "The Real Blues Man" professionally wrote/ produced/ engineered three Blues albums: We Need Love On The Rise, A Little White Christmas, and Lord Will You Come On Back (ft. Paulette Scaife-Hogan).
While touring the southern circuit in the 1960s, and performing in various venues, he met the love of his life, Shirley Sullivan, in Biscoe, Arkansas. He was united in marriage to Shirley Sullivan on January 18, 1965. This union was exemplary for over 56 years. He and his wife both accepted and dedicated their lives to Jesus Christ in 2007. Courtney was a courteous and humble man who never met a "stranger." He was well respected in the community and recognizable by his unforgettable smile. He earnestly served his wife, most notably to all, during her subsequent health ailments. Courtney L. Scaife, Sr. leaves a legacy that serves as an example of a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend for all to emulate.
He was preceded in earthly departure by his eldest son Courtney L. Scaife, Jr.; four brothers Curtis, Henry B., Earl, and Samuel; and three sisters Nicola, Cordi Mae, and Czerny.
Courtney L. Scaife, Sr. leaves to honor his life, a beautiful wife Shirley Sullivan Scaife of Stuttgart, Arkansas; two sons James Willis Scaife (Teresa) of Little Rock, Arkansas and Michael Anthony Scaife (Rosalyn) of Portland, Oregon; one daughter Paulette D. Hogan (Otis) of Little Rock, Arkansas; one brother James Scaife of Stuttgart, Arkansas; one sister Katie "Vert" Burton of Marvell, Arkansas; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
