Cleophas Grace Johnson was born February 19, 1927 to Virgil Davis, Sr. and Versie L. Reese Davis in Brinkley, Arkansas. She departed this life on December 9, 2023 surrounded by family in the comfort of her home.
She shared fond memories of playing on the hill with her nine siblings where they grew up and attended school in Geridge, Arkansas.
Grace married Charlie Johnson, and to this union three children were born Charles Wayne, Margo, and Booker.
She was employed at Enderlin Cleaners for years, then later worked for Riceland Foods, until she retired. After retirement, she became a caregiver.
Grace gave and dedicated her life to the Lord. She joined New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Stuttgart, under the leadership of Reverend Charles Hill and currently under the leadership of Reverend Thomas L. Gipson, Jr. She was on the Trustee Board, as well as a Sunday School Superintendent, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the choir and the Women’s Missionary Society. Grace was an active member until her health declined.
She was a Bible scholar and loved educating those on the word of God. Grace was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her legacy was that her children knew God. Her deep love extended to everyone in her immediate and extended family. In addition, Grace was a lover of food, especially sweets.
She was preceded in death by her parents Versie L. and Virgil Davis, Sr., husband Charlie Johnson, four sisters Helen Summerville, Ruth Maholmes, Reecie M.D. Humphrey, and Mary Francis Coleman, three brothers Virgil Davis, Jr., Josiah Davis, and Lawrence Davis, Sr., daughter Margo Hall, and son Charles Wayne Johnson.
Grace leaves to cherish her memory her son Booker T. (Mary) Johnson of Stuttgart, AR; daughter-in-law Mattie Johnson of Park Forest, IL; son-in-law Kenneth Hall, Sr. of St. Louis, MO; stepchildren Nathaniel Johnson and Milton “Bubba” Taylor, both of Memphis, TN, Linda Jones of Humphrey, AR, and Nadine Taylor of Conway, AR; two sisters Lynnette Williams and Gladys Anderson, both of Los Angeles, CA; and a multitude of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
