April McCoy Obituary

With deep sorrow and grateful hearts, we celebrate the life and legacy of April Nanette McCoy, born on April 13, 1976, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, to Edwalyn McCoy and Danny L. Dunn. April transitioned from this life on August 17, 2025, at the age of 49.

April began her early education in Stuttgart Public Schools before her family relocated to Duncan, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Duncan High School—home of the Duncan Demons. During her school years, she was a dedicated athlete, participating in track and basketball, where she formed lifelong friendships and cultivated a strong sense of determination and discipline.

April was a devoted member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Duncan, Oklahoma, under the leadership of Rev. Ronald L. Boyd. Her love for Christ was evident in her active participation in Sunday School and youth ministry. April’s faith remained a steady force throughout her life.

A true sports enthusiast, April’s heart beat loudest during football season—especially for her beloved Green Bay Packers (#GoPackGo). In her quiet time, she enjoyed live-streaming movies, scrolling through Facebook, and relaxing with family and friends, always bringing joy and laughter to any room she entered.

April’s work ethic was unwavering. Over the years, she contributed to her community through various positions at Crestpark Retirement Center, Wilkins Nursing Home, and Walmart in Duncan, Oklahoma. She also worked at Shell Gas Station, Mayflower, and Lumber Builders, Inc., all in Stuttgart, Arkansas. Wherever she worked, April was known for her radiant smile, loyalty, and genuine spirit.

April’s life was a beautiful testimony of resilience and strength. She quietly and courageously battled a blood clotting condition for nearly 22 years—never one to complain. Her favorite response, even on hard days, was: “I tired, but I okay.” Those simple words spoke volumes of her spirit and resolve.

To know April was to love her. Her personality lit up the lives of those around her. She was fun-loving, fiercely loyal, and unafraid to speak her truth—“you needed to come correct when approaching her”.

April was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Emma Earnestine Simms and paternal grandparents Issac Dunn, Sr. and Glennette Dunn.

She is survived by her loving mother, Edwalyn Johnson; father, Danny Dunn; beloved brothers, Derrick (Rhonda) McCoy of Heartland, TX and Dalynn Dunn; beloved sisters Danyell Dunn, Monick Dunn, Trisha Roberson, Se’lah Dunn, and Ta’yaah Dunn; cherished nieces, Dr. Camisha Kibble and DaKarri McCoy, family pet, Mr. Dallas, also of Heartland, TX; and her adored nephew, Michael Adams McCoy of Duncan, OK.

April’s memory will also be held dear by a host of aunts: Felicia Washington, Lori McCoy, Joyce Wofford, Donna (Ricky) Haynes, Lisa (Donnie) Brown, Linda Kay Dunn, Brenda Press, and La’Dean Press; uncles: Lamonte (Lenora) McCoy, Sr., Lawrence (Cynthia) E. McCoy, Thomas L. Hicks, Min. Theodore L. Hicks, Robert Dunn, Isaac Dunn, Jr., Elvis Press, and Gregg Press; along with numerous cousins, extended family members, and friends who were blessed to know her.

As her mother, I give thanks to God for the beautiful 49 years of April’s journey and the joy of having her in my life. Her presence will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
