Doris Holt Obituary

Doris Loretta Holt was born on July 3, 1939 in Casscoe, Arkansas to the late William and Malissie Wofford. She was the fourth of nine children. She was summoned home heaven bound on July 5, 2018 at 1:07 AM at Baptist Health Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Doris moved to Detroit in the 1950s where she married the late Curtis Adkins. To this union, two children were born: Angela Marie Adkins and Cedric Ondray Adkins. She later married the late Roosevelt Timmons. To this union, two children were born: Ramonte Cornelius Timmons and Lateisha Faith Timmons. At this time she had moved to Chicago where she worked for Hasbro Toy Company, Lake Street Grocery, and Spiegel Company. Doris loved people, fishing, cooking, singing and was an avid bowling giant who showcased many trophies from tournaments both local and nonlocal. She accepted Christ at an early age and later was determined to receive her missionary license under Pastor Oscar Brown, Jr. of the Prayer Room Henderson Temple Church of God in Christ, where she was a dedicated and faithful member, and who also had the privilege of christening her first born grandson Tre. She later remarried again from her hometown in Arkansas to Deacon Freddie L. Holt, which was a match made in Heaven thanks to her mom Malissie. They were inseparable. She moved back to Arkansas where only one of her siblings Zelotis Wofford resided after many years.

Doris opened a local ice cream shop in March 2002 called ‘Doris Delight’, where she made more than 50 homemade flavors. Due to an illness, she was forced to close her shop. The locals to this day still miss her many variety of flavors and food. She later came up with the idea of a candy store where she catered to the young and old with items such as chips, soda pop, candy, ice cream, and her famous Frito pie and nachos. Not a stranger to anyone who crossed her path, Doris loved people, and they in turn loved her. She developed a fetish for traveling, in which she explored frequently mostly with her sisters and their spouses. The sky was the limit, going everywhere around the globe. Her first love, however, was Jesus. Being a humble servant, she served at Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ in Casscoe, Arkansas under Elder C. Guydon and later served under Elder Frederick Jeffery. Doris loved teaching Sunday school and preparing for the Bible Band and other events; this she did faithfully until her health begin to fail. She loved serving in the church and cherished her great grandchildren Aniy’ Jah, Trevon, and Prentice. Ashli was her road buddy when she was younger and known as her “Hip”, while Trelle and Ondray accompanied her once on a trip to Arkansas. She said she didn’t think she wanted to do that again alone. She was proud to be called “Big Ma’, which she was known by this name by everyone who knew her up North, and down in the South she was called ‘Mama Doris’ by her children she didn’t birth but still loved as if she did.

She was preceded in death by three brothers J.D. Holt of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Grover Wofford of Detroit, Michigan, and Sipio Wofford of Casscoe, Arkansas; six sisters Barbara Jean Woods of South Field, Michigan, Georgia Lee Adkins of Detroit, Michigan, Annette Cunningham of Look Out, Arkansas, Mary Wynn of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Emily Young of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Isabel Love of Oakland, California.
