Charles Brown, Sr. Obituary

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven…….” Matthew 5:12

Charles Berry Brown, Sr., 84, of Scott, Arkansas entered his reward on March 7, 2024.

Charles was born on July 2, 1939 to Lucy Jane Turner Brown and Hollis Brown, Sr. in Stuttgart, Arkansas. As commonly expected for young boys at this time, Charles was removed from school at an early age to help farm and contribute to feeding the family. It was during this time he learned the value of family and hard work. It was his oldest sister Ida that taught him to read. After committing his life to Christ, Charles could be found at any given time reading the Word of God. His desire to learn and to be like Christ earned him the nickname of “Study” that friends and family called him for many years to follow.

On October 30, 1978, Charles married Victoria Miller of Stuttgart. Their love and marriage have been a model for many throughout the years, as they both exemplified true obedience to God in honoring His vows of marriage.

Charles never met a stranger, and he took this opportunity to tell others about the love of Christ. Many sought him out for his wisdom, and others were drawn to his peaceful spirit. His friends called him “CB”. Charles was also a talented man. For over half of his life, he worked as a Heavy Machine Operator, skillfully operating cranes, loaders, excavators, and bulldozers. His talent was sought out throughout the South and for a while he traveled, but he always made his way back home.  He was also a carpenter; there wasn’t anything he could not build, even building the family home that his wife requested.

Charles loved God, and he loved his children. Over the years he was called many things, “CB”, Study, but what he treasured most was simply being called Daddy. There was no place he would not travel to visit his children, rather traveling across the country supporting his girls as they served in the military or simply driving across town to check on his sons.  He never missed an opportunity to brag about what they were doing and to share their accomplishments with others.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents Lucy and Hollis Brown, Sr., his daughter Rebecca Brown, five brothers, and one sister.

His memory will be forever held in the hearts of his family: his loving wife Victoria; two sisters Ida Mae Whitmore and Esteali (James) Nichols; three brothers Joe (JoAnn) Brown, Clarence Brown, and Paul (Debra) Brown; six daughters Flechia (Vincent) Pryor, Barbara (Danero) Alexander, Shanorrissa Powell, Repunza (Kareem) Brown-Mohammed, Linda Brown, and Christian Brown; four sons Charles Brown, Jr., James Brown, Roy Powell, and Lamont (Nyree) Brown; as well as many cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers- in- law, sisters- in -law, and friends.
